Back in the day when you walked the stage, you received the diploma cover after you shook the principals hand then exited the stage and went to your seat, accordingly. Then and only then when the ceremony was over you got your actual diploma. To make sure you didn’t cut up. These days everything is for the Gram, with the outlandish proms along with these dances we see on social media at graduation. Unfortunately for a Chicago graduate she was living in these days while her high school was operating on old school ways, so when she hit her split the high school hit her with breach of contract and withheld her diploma.
You be the judge…was the school right or wrong?
According to Tyvion Campbell, she crossed the stage, waved to the crowd, dropped into a split, and then realized she wasn’t being handed her diploma. Campbell said she initially thought there had been a mistake, but later learned school officials had intentionally withheld it. She claims she was pulled aside after the ceremony and told she would need to find a way to make amends before receiving her diploma. According to her, graduation guidelines addressed things like balloons and photos but did not mention dances, stage celebrations, or disciplinary consequences. Miss Campbell, who has a 3.5 GPA and plans to attend Georgia State University this fall, claims students were never informed that celebratory dance moves or similar actions were prohibited during the ceremony.
