Aaliyah’s Uncle/Former Manager, Barry Hankerson, Blames His Son For Her Death In The Midst Of $1.2mil Lawsuit

It’s been 25 years since the world received the shocking news that singer Aaliyah had passed away tragically in a plane crash at the age of 22 years old.  Following the 25th anniversary of Aaliyah’s untimely death, it’s being reported that there has been a shocking allegation being made by her uncle/former manager Barry Hankerson.  According to Barry Hankerson in the midst of a $1.2 million lawsuit he is blaming his son, Aaliyah’s cousin, Jomo, for her tragic death.

Barry Hankerson claimed that his son, Jomo Hankerson, was in charge of coordinating the “Try Again” songstress’s travel from the Bahamas — where she was filming her “Rock the Boat” music video — to Florida but “failed in his responsibility,” according to a lawsuit over music rights obtained by TMZ Monday.  According to Barry Hankerson the plane crash accident that caused Aaliyah’s death “may have been avoided had [Jomo] followed through on his compensated task of travel coordination.”  Had Jomo done what he was paid to do Aaliyah would have never been on the private plane that crashed shortly after takeoff, killing the 22-year-old singer and everyone else onboard.

The explosive accusation surfaced as Jomo sues his father and Blackground Records over a previous settlement involving music rights. Jomo claims he is entitled to 12% of money Barry made from certain recording masters and publishing copyrights connected to Aaliyah, Toni Braxton, DMX and Timbaland. He accuses his father of using the label to hide money and create unrelated expenses in an effort to pay him less. Jomo is seeking more than $1.2 million in damages.
