A Judge Say’s Jay-Z’s Defamation Lawsuit Against Attorney Tony Buzbee Merits A Trial

Texas attorney Tony Buzbee filed dozens of cases on behalf of anonymous accusers of sexual misconduct against Sean “Diddy” Combs and included one alleging rapper Jay-Z participated in the rape of a teenager.  Jay-Z  vehemently denied the allegations, alleging this has been an alleged money grab.   In a notice of voluntary dismissal filed by Attorney Buzbee, the woman dropped the lawsuit with prejudice, preventing it from being re-filed in the future.  You would think for Jay-Z, this chapter is over, but Mr. Carter isn’t done with this and has filed a lawsuit of his own for defamation and extortion.

Reportedly Los Angeles Judge Mark H. Epstein ruled on Tuesday that Mr. Shawn Carter (Jay-Z) presented a strong case that Buzbee acted recklessly and with actual malice when he named the rapper in a now-dismissed rape lawsuit last December. However, the judge suggested that Buzbee’s settlement demands did not meet the legal definition of extortion, signaling that part of the lawsuit may be thrown out.

Attorney Tony Buzbee, who is representing more than 100 alleged victims in sexual assault lawsuits against Sean “Diddy” Combs, has also been hit with another roadblock, being recently denied admission to practice in the Southern District of New York.

The next court hearing is scheduled for March 26, when Epstein is expected to issue a final ruling on the extortion claim. If dismissed, the case will proceed solely on defamation grounds.
