Welp It’s A Wrap, Mackenzie Shirilla Loses Last Chance to Appeal Murder Conviction

In May Netflix dropped a new documentary ‘The Crash’ a true-crime documentary that reconstructed the events before and after a fatal collision in Strongsville, OH, a suburb of Cleveland.  The documentary explores the case of his daughter Mackenzie Shirilla, who was charged with murder after she crashed her car at the age of 17 years old, killing her boyfriend 20-year-old Dominic Russo, and their friend, 19-year-old Davion Flanagan, in 2022.   All parents, family members and friends (even friends that wouldn’t cooperate with police) connected to this tragic event were in the documentary, including Mackenzie Shirilla, who was convicted of murdering her boyfriend and a friend in 2023, was interviewed from prison.  Mackenzie Shrilla since 2024 has unsuccessfully tried to appeal the decision, and today Shirilla lost her last chance to appeal.

The Ohio Supreme Court rejected Mackenzie Shirilla’s request to reconsider its June decision, with Chief Justice Sharon L. Kennedy writing, “It is ordered by the court that the motion for reconsideration in this case is denied.” Shirilla was convicted in August 2023 of intentionally crashing her Toyota Camry into a brick building at speeds of up to 100 mph, killing her boyfriend, Dominic Russo, 20, and their friend, Davion Flanagan, 19, in July 2022. Shirilla, who was 17 at the time of the crash, survived and was sentenced to 15 years to life after being found guilty on all 12 charges she faced. During her trial, the judge said Shirilla became “literal hell on wheels” while behind the wheel.
