There are three sides to every story: your side, their side, and the truth. In the case of this viral High School track state championship relay race, it’s your side, their side, video tape and the truth.
First we have the hairstylist not getting paid video that went viral because she allegedly wrongly attacked a 15 year old. Now we have the viral state track meet relay video where upon first glance it looks like a young lady in lane 2 was passing another in lane 1, when the young lady in lane 1 clocks the runner in lane 2 in the head with the relay Baton. Although the incident was captured on video and posted to social media, the backlash behind it has left the alleged baton striker traumatized and now the question is being raised was it really just accident? Is the proof in the angles?
The incident occurred at the VHSL Class 3 State Indoor Championships in Virginia. Alailia Everett and Kaelen Tucker were competing in the 4×200-meter relay when they nearly collided with each other while rounding a curve on the track. In the viral video, Everett seemingly cocks her arm back with the baton, striking Tucker, causing her to fall over.
Miss Tucker says the act was on purpose:
“When we got to the curve she kept bumping me in my arm and when we got off the curve I finally passed her and that was when she hit me with the baton.”
Miss Everett tearfully says it was NOT!!
“After a couple times of hitting her, my baton got stuck behind her back like this, and it rolled up her back. I lost my balance when I pumped my arms again. She got hit,” “I know my intentions and I would never hit someone on purpose,”
The I.C. Norcom High School team was ultimately disqualified, which Vincent Pugh, former Citywide Athletic Director at Portsmouth Public Schools, found questionable. He said a play-by-play showed that Turner was running closely to Everett.
“If a person comes up on the outside, they got to be a full stride ahead of me before they can cut in front of me,”
Typically a High School relay baton are hallow, made out of lightweight Anodized Aluminum, however a doctor later diagnosed Kaelen Tucker with a concussion and “possible fractured skull.”
Despite her intentions, Tucker and her family are filing a lawsuit against Everett, claiming they want a protective order. They also want an apology from Everett for the alleged assault.
