Sunday, 43 year old Baton Rouge, rapper Boosie BadAzz, whose real name is Torrence Ivy Hatch Jr. who reportedly filed a lawsuit behind the $600k took his story to ’60 Minutes’ in a segment that explores whether the federal clemency and pardon process operates as a “pay-to-play” system where high fees are charged for political access with no guarantees. The segment that aired on Sunday however didn’t get his full side of the story, that is according to Boosie who posted his displeasure with the CBS’ segment, titled “The Pardon Economy,” on social media.
According to Boosie in a post on ‘X’ formerly known as Twitter, he sat for an hour-long interview about his failed attempt to secure a pardon from President Donald Trump, but claims only “a few things” made the final cut.
“My story wasn’t told fully,” however he hopes the interview will ultimately help prove his case as he seeks compensation. did feature Boosie discussing the $600,000 he paid lobbyists Jack Burkman and Jacob Wohl to help secure a pardon.
The CBS investigation went beyond Boosie, secretly recording Burkman and Wohl pitching another pardon seeker and telling him they could pursue a Trump pardon for $300,000. The White House denied that money influences Trump’s clemency decisions, telling CBS that anyone paying lobbyists for pardons is “foolishly wasting their money.”
Boosie Badazz sought a presidential pardon to wipe away a federal conviction for illegal firearm possession stemming from a 2023 arrest in San Diego. Pleading guilty to being a felon in possession of a gun, he petitioned for clemency to clear his record, restore his rights, and avoid the risk of returning to prison. Boosie Badazz never received the pardon, however a federal judge in San Diego sentenced him to time served, along with three years of supervised release and community service, sparing him from additional prison time. Boosie Badazz kind of got what he was looking for but he had allegedly paid $600K for the pardon he never received.
