Michael B. Jordan and Jonathan Majors Show Love To Angela Bassett When Oscars Didn’t [VIDEO]

Back in 1994 actress Angela Bassett a ‘Best Actress’ nomination for an Oscar for her role as Tina Turner in the legendary movie ‘What’s Love Got To Do With It’.  Since then Angela Bassett has been in many movies without another nomination until her iconic role in ‘Wakanda Forever’ in 2022 earning her the nomination for ‘Best Supporting Actress’.  Her husband actor Courtney B. Vance at the American Black Film Festival Honors said it was Angela’s time.

“I know who she is… She is not just mine, she is everybody’s. The power in sharing, the power in humility, the power in sacrifice is amazing, and I recognize and I know what it is. It’s her time. She has been waiting for this for 29 years. I am not getting in the way of that. I’m like, ‘Baby, what you need me to do, where you need me to be?’ It has been 29 years — what did she do for those first 10 years, how did she sustain? Other people would have just given up.”

Angela Bassett hit the red carpet for the 95th Oscars with her husband Courtney B. Vance and twins Bronwyn and Slater by her side waiting patiently to hear her name called.  However when the words the “Academy Award goes to…” was spoken the name that was given was to first time nominated, first time winner Jamie Lee Curtis for her performance in “Everything Everywhere All at Once.”  The crowd including Jamie Lee Curtis seemed surprised, while Angela Bassett looked distraught.

The Oscars may have not shown Angela Bassett love buy actors Michael B. Jordan and Jonathan Majors made sure they did.  “Hey auntie,…We love you”

Michael B. Jordan started off as he and Majors took the stage to present the award for best cinematography. The words were a direct reference to 2018’s “Black Panther,” in which Jordan’s character Killmonger said the exact same thing to Basset, who plays Ramonda.
