Prayer warriors are being summoned as residents and community activists are growing concerned as a Chicago family fears that a woman found decomposed in a trash can is that of Zenobia Weatherspoon who has been missing for three weeks.
Police were called to an alley near Union Avenue and 54th Street, where the woman’s body was discovered, according to information provided in the report. Authorities have not officially identified the victim. However, the family of 38 year old Zenobia Weatherspoon feared the woman was her. The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office has not identified the woman or a cause of death as of Monday afternoon, but she was identified as Zenobia Weatherspoon by Ald. Stephanie Coleman (16th) and State Rep. Lakeshia Collins.
A disturbing video of the recovery has been circulating on social media, prompting family and activists to demand privacy, respect, and answers regarding the investigation.
State Rep. Lakeshia Collins said in an online statement Zenobia ‘Zee’ Weatherspoon’s death is a “profoundly personal” tragedy, as she watched her grow up in their Back of the Yards neighborhood.
“Zenobia was a beloved member of our community who even babysat my boys,” “We demand a full, thorough investigation, and we pray that the perpetrators of this heinous act are swiftly brought to justice.”
Ald. Stephanie Coleman (16th) described Zenobia Weatherspoon as, “beautiful individual and a caretaker for her grandmother,”
