Donald Trump Revoked The Equal Employment Opportunity Act

The 47th President Donald Trump officially took office on Monday, January 20, 2025, Dr. Martin Luther King Day, and began undoing, through executive orders, things that were put in place by previous administrations.  Then breaking news this morning was that all Federal employees in diversity, equity and inclusion roles be placed on paid leave by Wednesday evening.  Now President Donald Trump has upped the ante by revoking The Equal Employment Opportunity Act.

President Donald Trump revoked an executive order dating back to 1965. The Equal Employment Opportunity Act, signed by President Lyndon B. Johnson, provides broader protection to workers, including federal contractors, while the executive order specifically applied to federal contractors. According to the Department of Labor, the order prohibited discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, or national origin. This is in line with Trump’s efforts to establish “merit-based” practices in hiring and academics.
