Should Smear Campaigns Be Deleted From Political Campaigning ? [VIDEO]

The November 2026 election has been a hot topic and the smear campaigns have become an even hotter topic.  Instead of hearing what can opponents do for it’s constituents we are hearing more about individuals alleged dirty laundry.   In the case of Democrat Amy Acton vs. Vivek Ramaswamy things have gotten extremely personal to the point where the topic of a video with Acton’s estranged mother in it is being highlighted more than the topics.  Which brings up the question should smear campaigns be deleted for political campaigning?

A smear campaign is an intentional, premeditated effort to undermine an individual’s or group’s reputation, credibility, and character. Like negative campaigning, most often smear campaigns target government officials, politicians, political candidates, and other public figures.

Democrat Amy Acton holds a narrow lead over Republican Vivek Ramaswamy in recent polling for the Ohio gubernatorial election. Most high-quality surveys indicate a tight, highly competitive race as the candidates enter the final stretch.  We can only guess but to put some distance in this lead a campaign ad by Republican candidate for Ohio governor Vivek Ramaswamy includes the mother of Democrat Amy Acton. Acton says they’ve been estranged since she was abused as a child by her stepfather in which her and her sibling were removed from the home.  Her mother stayed with the stepfather until the day he died, seemingly choosing her husband over her children however in this recent video she doesn’t want people to vote for her daughter calling her daughter a liar. Amy Acton has been estranged from Arthur since 1978 when her stepfather, Cledith Arthur, faced a rape charge for sexually assaulting Acton when she was 12 years old.

In response to this add that Vivek Ramaswamy, VP JD Vance and other republicans they are standing ten toes down on running it.  Ironically acting Republican Ohio governor Mike Dewine says:

“The ad on its face is deeply, deeply troubling,” said. “It’s wrong to run this ad. … I would just urge the Ramaswamy campaign to take this down.”

Is it too much to ask to stick to the important topic?  Give us your thoughts.
