Prior to JAY-Z going back his roots figuratively and literally in a historic three-night sold out concert residency at Yankee Stadium in New York City celebrating the 30 year anniversary of his ‘Reasonable Doubt’ Album, showing why he is the G.O.A.T, Jay was treated like a donkey when Jay-Z faced backlash in 2026 for partnering with Target to sell an exclusive 30th-anniversary vinyl of his debut album, Reasonable Doubt. Critics, including civil rights advocates, condemned the collaboration because Target was undergoing a nationwide boycott by Black consumers over its rollbacks of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives. Jay-Z on day one of selling out Yankee Stadium addressed being called a “sell out” in a legendary freestyle rap, however the debate of whether Jay sold out or nah is still a debate.
“They say I sold out. Yeah, I did sell out. Three nights. I sold Yankee Stadium the hell out,”
Recently Activist Tamika Mallory addressed the Jigga Man elephant in the room.
In a post shared to social media, Mallory referenced the debate sparked by the rap mogul’s comments during the opening night of his sold-out Yankee Stadium residency, where he appeared to address accusations that he had “sold out” by working with the retailer despite calls for a boycott.
“I heard all the conversations around Jay’s freestyle, and I think accountability has to go both ways,” “It’s easy to ask why we’re not fighting every battle at once. The harder question is: Are we willing to unite behind one strategy long enough to make an impact?”
