Oscar winning actress Sandra Bullock adopted two children, her son Louis, born in 2010, when he was a newborn from New Orleans and her daughter Laila, born in 2015 from foster care in Louisiana. Sandra Bullock raised both children alongside her longtime partner, photographer Bryan Randall, until his tragic passing from ALS in August 2023, and has historically kept her children’s faces out of the mainstream spotlight, though she occasionally shares glimpses of their life together on social media.  As famous as Sandra Bullock is her fear for her children doesn’t come from her fame but because of the skin they are in.

Sandra Bullock sat down with Hoda Kotb and Nicole Kidman while promoting “Practical Magic 2.” Rather than a typical press-run small talk, she opened up about motherhood and what it means to raise Black children in a country that doesn’t always see them as hers.  “I’m uber paranoid, and they will tell you,” Bullock admitted. Her kids try to ease her mind, telling her it’s going to be fine. She’s not buying it. “I’m like, ‘It’s not fine. It’s not fine outside,’” she said, pointing to what she called the energy floating around the country and the world right now.
She went on to elaborate, “The color of their skin,” Bullock continued. “They’re my babies, they’re my life, but no one knows that when they leave my house. So that is always in the forefront of my mind.”
