We always see documentaries or stories that share the stories of women who had been victims of domestic violence. Recently someone came up with the idea of doing one on the abusers of women and one “former” abuser in particular had has peoples jaws dropping. When typically a man is taught to never put their hands on a woman, this particular man not only felt he had good reasons to beat women but even went so far to say that on of those reasons was because men are in charge of women.
Director Deeyah Khan interviewed a man for his documentary “Behind the Rage” who said he had been arrested 7 times for domestic violence, twice in one day when he went to jail got out then he went and found the woman and beat her up again for calling the police on him. When asked had anyone ever put a restraining order out again him, he said, “restraining order don’t mean nothing to me, restraining order ain’t nothing but a piece of paper, it over until I say it’s over”. The man says he never considered himself a women beater because was trying to get some compliance.
Director Deeyah Khan says the purpose is to “understand how they (men) justify their actions and how we can better prevent this violence”.
