Robert Kelly is fed up and wants out. The Pied Piper of R&B, R. Kelly has asked President Donald Trump to commute his 30 year jail sentence, after being convicted in 2022 on federal racketeering and sex trafficking charges involving the sexual exploitation of women and underage girls.
According to new filings with the Department of Justice’s Office of the Pardon Attorney, R. Kelly isn’t asking for a full pardon. Instead, he’s requesting a commutation, which would reduce the amount of time he has left to serve but would leave his convictions in place. The formal request comes a year after Kelly’s attorney, Beau Brindley, publicly requested that the president take a look at the case over allegations of a “murder plot” in prison.
Robert Kelly is currently serving most of his sentences simultaneously at a federal facility in Butner, North Carolina. If R. Kelly’s sentence isn’t commuted he won’t be released from prison until 2045 at the age of 79.
