The New York Knicks have made it to the finals a place they haven’t been too since 1999. Everybody celebrity with New York ties have been showing up and showing out for the Knick except for one, 10 year New York Knick veteran Charles Oakley. Cleveland native Charles Oakley has been able to watch his former team while on the road but when they are at home at Madison Square Gardens Oak is still banned. NBA Chicago Bulls legend/former teammate Michael Jordan and even the NBA commissioner Adam Silver has went to bat for Charles Oakley’s MSG ban to be dissolved but allegedly New York Knicks owner James Dolan still won’t budge.
Adam Silver at his Finals press conference:
“I tried, Michael Jordan tried, to broker peace between Charles Oakley and Jim Dolan. Our efforts were unsuccessful. I think it’s unfortunate for the NBA… I tried my best.”
In February 2017, Charles Oakley attended a Knicks home game, sat a few rows behind Dolan’s courtside seat, and was accused of being verbally abusive, a claim he denied. Security dragged him out of the arena in handcuffs as stunned fans watched, and a ban followed shortly after. MSG has maintained in court filings that Oakley was removed for disruptive behavior, while Dolan accused him of having a problem with alcohol, which Oakley also denied.
