Racism isn’t hereditary, it is learned behavior.  The question becomes whether an adult maneuvers away from that learned behavior, or do they learn how to maneuver while keeping that learned behavior in their back pocket, for their use only?

No long after Donald Trump took office 53 year old, South African native, Elon Musk, Tesla Founder, was brought on by President Trump to make America Great Again starting with cutting thousands of federal workers as the head of Department of Government Efficiency, when he reposted a message on X saying “Hitler didn’t murder millions of people. Public sector employees did.”  Many have questioned Elon Musk’s race relations as it pertains to people of color due to some of the public moves he has made especially when he became Trump’s right hand man, before they allegedly fell out.

Racism in South Africa has a long history rooted in colonialism and the apartheid system (apartheid is an Afrikaans word meaning “separateness,”) of institutionalized racial segregation, which legally ended in 1994 with the transition to democracy. However, its profound legacy of socio-economic inequality and racial polarization continues to shape the country today.

With that being said, how can one raised white in South Africa learned behavior not be based on racism?

Elon Musk’s father Errol Musk sat down for an interview with CNN for its upcoming special “MisinfoNation: White Genocide,” when senior correspondent Donie O’Sullivan asked him about figures projecting white people will be a minority U.S. population within the next 20 years.  Errol Musk’s response shocked Donie O’Sullivan:

“That will be a very, very bad thing to happen. You want to see the U.S. go down? Why? You don’t like electric cars, and you don’t like technology? What is it, you want to go back to the jungle?”

Errol Musk proceeded to say that claims that oppression in South Africa was “nonsense” was then reminded by O’Sullivan that maybe he didn’t see it because he was white.
