What In The Zoo Is Going On In Ohio This Weekend

Two Northeast Ohio zoos were evacuated Sunday after receiving threats, the latest in a string of what authorities have described as “swatting” incidents. Both the Akron Zoo and Cleveland Metroparks Zoo were evacuated after receiving false bomb and active shooter threats.

The Akron Zoo evacuated guests Sunday morning and was closed for the remainder of the day after receiving a bomb and active shooter threat. According to a release, the zoo received the threat at approximately 10:50 a.m., and it implemented emergency management procedures.

Director of Communications Jacqueline Gerling confirmed the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo received a threat similar to those reported across the country. The zoo was proactively evacuated out of an abundance of caution and to ensure the safety of those on the property.

Then on Saturday Columbus Zoo and Aquarium was evacuated after a bomb and active shooter threat shut down the the park.
