Say it ain’t so, Flo Jo 2.0, Sha’Carri Richardson, has tested positive for marijuana and will not be able to compete in the 100m in the Tokyo Olympics.
21 year old, Dallas, Texas native, Sha’Carri Richardson impressively won the Olympic trials in Eugene, Oregon winning the women’s 100m finals with a time of 10.86, with motivation of those who told her she was too small along with blessings from her biological mother watching from above after loosing her from the week before. The hopes were for Sha’Carri Richardson, with the flare, style and speed much like Florence Griffith Joyner, to become the third woman to successfully defend an Olympic 100m title with the last time the women’s team America has brought home the gold in this event since 1996 when Gail Dever’s won in Atlanta.
Sha’Carri Richardson tested positive at the Olympic trials last month, she reportedly said that she had smoked marijuana to help her deal with the death of her mother. Sha’Carri Richardson apologized saying:
“As much as I’m disappointed I know that when I step on the track I represent not only myself, I represent a community that has shown great support, great love … I apologize for the fact that I didn’t know how to control my emotions or deal with my emotions during that time.”
Sha’Carri Richardson will miss her individual 100m race in the Tokyo Olympics because of her 1 month suspension however she may be able to complete in the relays in Tokyo.
