Bronx, New York native and one of the most legendary African American music executives, Uptown Records founder, Andre Harrell has passed away at the age of 59.  News of Harrell’s death came as a huge shock to the Hip Hop community, but his death has been confirmed by Billboard sources.

Andre Harrell started off with a brief rapping stint which led him to his first job in the record industry with Def Jam, whom was own then by another musical executive legend Russell Simmons.  This before starting his own record label Uptown Records.   Andre Harrell’s record label Uptown Records gave birth to some of the greatest talents in musical history, starting with Sean “Puff Daddy” Combs, Heavy D & The Boyz, Al B. Sure! the group Guy , which brought us super-producer and King of New Jack Swing, Teddy Riley, Jodeci and the Queen Mary J. Blige.

The cause of Andre Harrell’s death has not been released as of yet.
