Minnesota Rep. Melissa Hortman and Husband Killed In Politically Motivated Shooting [VIDEO]

Democratic Minnesota state Rep. Melissa Hortman and her husband were killed, and state Sen. John Hoffman and his wife were wounded in politically motivated shootings overnight.

According to a report 55 year old Melissa Hortman and her husband were shot and killed in their Brooklyn Park home by an alleged suspect dressed as a police officer in what authorities are describing as an assassination.  Only 5 miles away Sen. John Hoffman and his wife were wounded in their home.

Hortman was first elected to the Minnesota House of Representatives in 2004, and she served as House speaker from 2019 to 2025. She and her husband are survived by their two children.

A manhunt is underway in Brooklyn Park for the person responsible, and thousands of people in the surrounding area remain under a shelter-in-place order and all other Minnesota state lawmakers are under protective custody in coordination with the Minnesota Department of Public Safety and local law enforcement jurisdictions.
