Karmelo Anthony New Legal Team Officially On Deck Working To Overturn Murder Conviction [VIDEO]

Karmelo Anthony, at 19 years old was sentenced to 35 years in prison following being found guilty of murder in the stabbing death of Austin Metcalf, 17, at a stadium in the Dallas suburb of Frisco.

Following his conviction, Karmelo Anthony initially requested a court-appointed lawyer (attorneys Donny Perales and Lara Bracamonte Davila) for the appeal. However, his family has since retained a new, high-profile private legal team led by appellate attorney Russell Wilson II, civil rights lawyer Brooke Cluse (Ben Crump Law), and Texas NAACP President Gary Bledsoe to handle the appeal.

Karmelo Anthony was indicted by a Collin County grand jury after prosecutors presented evidence related to the fatal confrontation that unfolded during a track meet at Frisco’s Kuykendall Stadium on April 2, 2025.  Reportedly an argument happened during a weather delay inside the team tent.  Allegedly a 17 year old Karmelo Anthony warned 17 year old Austin Metcalf, “Touch me and see what happens,”  Austin Metcalf was stabbed in the chest and later died from his injuries.  That’s fact.  Karmelo Anthony say’s the stabbing was in self defense, while the prosecution argues Anthony carried out an unprovoked “sneak attack” with a pocketknife.  Karmelo Anthony was an A student and team captain.
