Judge Dismisses Charges Against Principal Accused Of Being Warned About A 6yr Old Who Had A Gun And Shot His Teacher [VIDEO]

On January 6, 2023 in Virginia, a 6 year old brought a gun to school and intuitionally shot his teacher.  The 25 year old teacher, who was shot in the hand and chest, filed her lawsuit, alleging that school officials ignored multiple warnings that the boy had a gun and was in a violent mood that day. The school board’s lawyers sought to dismiss her claim, arguing her injuries are covered under the state’s worker’s compensation law. However, a judge ruled the lawsuit can proceed. Former Richneck Elementary School assistant principal Dr. Ebony Parker was indicted by a special grand jury on eight counts of felony child abuse and was facing up to 40 years in prison if convicted behind the incident.

It’s now 2026 and although prosecutors claimed that multiple school employees warned Parker that the child may have had a firearm in his backpack, but she allegedly failed to take action a judge still disagreed with prosecutors.  Former Richneck Elementary School assistant principal Dr. Ebony Parker broke down in tears as a judge has ruled to dismiss the charges.

On Thursday, a judge threw out all eight felony child neglect charges against Dr. Ebony Parker.  Judge Rebecca Robinson ultimately ruled that Parker’s alleged actions did not amount to a crime under Virginia law: “The court is of the legal opinion that this is not a crime, not under the common law of Virginia, nor under the code of Virginia. I want to add my ruling today is based upon legal principles only.”

The child’s mother, 26-year-old Deja Nicole Taylor, was also charged with felony child neglect after the child took her gun to school. She pleaded guilty and was sentenced in December to two years on the state charges, in addition to 21 months on federal gun charges for lying about drug use on the form required to obtain the weapon.

The teach, Abby Zwerner, who was shot by the 6 year old, is still recovering from the shooting after the bullet narrowly missed her heart and remains lodged in her chest, was awarded by a jury $10 million in a civil case after finding Parker was liable for ignoring warning signs.

The child, who was not charged with any wrongdoing, is now reportedly in the care of a relative and enrolled at a different school.
