If you went into a trance during the presidential debate, Tuesday night, between former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris, your radar kicked into gear when Donald Trump said “In Springfield they are eating the dogs, the people that came in, they’re eating the cats. They’re eating the pets of the people that live there,” Most people sitting in their living rooms perked up and said “WTH!!”, “where did that come from??”
Allegedly there were stories on social media about Haitian immigrants abducting and eating pets, citing information relayed by locals on social media. JD Vance reiterated the stories and Donald Trump 2nd that emotion.
Now the Haitians of Springfield, OH located about 50 miles west of Columbus are speaking out about what Donald Trump said during the debate.
According to 19 year old Alimemby Estimable:
“The majority of us, we work in warehouses, factories. You can’t work there illegally. Obviously, we’re legally working,” …“I’ve been seeing a lot of people talking about a lot of stuff that’s not accurate. You know, saying, like, all Haitians are cutting ducks’ necks and eating them at the park and like, they’re running into trash cans and homes and stuff. I ain’t never seen a Haitian do that before. I’m just keep it real, because I’m a Haitian myself,”
Police say the claim is not true, but Republicans, including vice presidential candidate Sen. JD Vance, are taking to social media to draw attention to possible consequences of illegal immigration.
Thousands of Haitians have arrived in Springfield since the COVID-19 pandemic, in a town of 58,000 people, about 20,000 Haitians.
