FDA Back Peddling Taco Bell’s Supplier Having Cyclospora In The Lettuce Saying It Was A False Positive [VIDEO]

Taco Bell supplier was labeled the culprit in the ‘Cyclospora’ outbreak, now the FDA is back peddling on that label saying it was a false positive.  

Just days after linking Taco Bell’s lettuce supplier, Taylor Farms, to the Cyclospora outbreak that has sickened hundreds of people, the FDA is now walking back its claim.  According to the agency, a second review of a lettuce sample from Taylor Farms found no traces of Cyclospora: “FDA laboratory experts re-reviewed the sample results and have concluded that the finding does not represent true amplification and should be considered a false positive.” This reverses the FDA’s earlier announcement that linked the outbreak to the company’s lettuce, which officials said was grown in Mexico and shipped to Taco Bell restaurants in Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, and West Virginia. Consumers were also advised to throw away certain Taylor Farms iceberg lettuce products, and Taco Bell locations across the country stopped using the ingredient.

In a Monday clarification, the agency said its false positive does not change its prior conclusion that the outbreak is linked to shredded iceberg lettuce from central Mexico supplied by Taylor Farms, which was also served at some Taco Bell locations. The agency is still advising Americans not to eat recalled iceberg lettuce.
