D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser In The Midst Of GOP Funding Threats Will Remove BLM Mural From Plaza [VIDEO]

“Stay woke” is an expression that means to be aware of and actively work against social injustice and inequality. According to President Donald Trump during the address to a joint session of Congress, “America is back” and “Will be woke no longer”.

D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser announced Tuesday that in the midst of GOP funding threats, there a now plans to paint over a large, yellow “Black Lives Matter” mural that was erected one block from the White House.

This announcement comes following Rep. Andrew Clyde, R-Ga., introduced legislation that would require the city to repaint and rename the plaza or else lose millions of dollars in transportation funding that President Donald Trump supports.

According to D.C. Mayor Bowser:

“The mural inspired millions of people and helped our city through a very painful period, but now we can’t afford to be distracted by meaningless congressional interference,” “The devastating impacts of the federal job cuts must be our number one concern.”

The plaza will be repainted as part of a citywide mural project celebrating the country’s 250^th birthday next year, the mayor’s office declined to reveal whether the city will also rename Black Lives Matter Plaza. 

Black Lives Matter began with a social media hashtag, #BlackLivesMatter, after the acquittal of George Zimmerman in the shooting death of Trayvon Martin back in 2012. The movement grew nationally in 2014 after the deaths of Michael Brown in Missouri and Eric Garner in New York.  The plaza was renamed by Mayor Muriel Bowser on June 5, 2020, after the Department of Public Works painted the words “Black Lives Matter” in yellow, 35-foot-tall  capital letters, along with the D.C. flag, during the series of George Floyd protests taking place in the city. Downtown Washington, D.C.

We take two steps forward in this country, now we are taking two steps back, woke will no longer be and bullying is alive and well.
