California Man Has Pled Guilty To Sending Fake Ransom Notes To Savannah Guthrie’s Family

There’s a special place in hell for someone that takes the kidnapping of an elderly woman as an opportunity to come up. ‘Today’ host Savannah Guthrie has been living a living hell for months with the unknown of who took her mother Nancy Guthrie from her home.  There have been rumored ransom letters that were sent out with undisclosed specifics to media outlets.   It’s being reported that a California man has admitted he inserted himself into Nancy Guthrie’s missing-person investigation with bitcoin ransom messages,

Derrick Callella pleaded guilty to two counts of harassment using a telecommunication device after admitting he called and texted Guthrie’s relatives on February 4 asking about a bitcoin transfer.  According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office said.

“Callella acknowledged that he knew an earlier ransom demand had been made. Callella also admitted that his actions were meant to harass the family by seeking information about the investigation into the missing person’s disappearance,”

Derrick Callella faces up to two years in prison, a $250,000 fine, or both, plus one year of supervised release. Sentencing is set for Sept. 10.
