3 Police and 2 Paramedics Charged In Death Of Elijah McClain [VIDEO]

A grand jury indicted three officers and two paramedics in the death of Elijah McClain, a Black man who was put in a chokehold and injected with a powerful sedative two years ago in suburban Denver.

In 2019 Elijah McCain was walking home from a convenience store when someone called 911 and reported that they seen someone who “looked sketchy” when police arrived a struggle ensued to handcuff Elijah McClain.  The police officers placed Elijah McCain in a carotid hold, which restricts blood to the brain to render someone unconscious. When paramedics arrived, after about 15 minutes, they injected him with ketamine, a powerful sedative.  On the way to the hospital Elijah McCain had a heart attack and died a few days later.  The body cam footage from the incident sparked protest.  

Attorney General Phil Weiser said all five officers and paramedics were charged with manslaughter and criminally negligent homicide, while some also face additional charges.
