A woman in Virginia was visiting her mother, the homeowner, when the incident took place. Whiteside’s younger brother and their family dog were also inside the home when the group of suspects – one clad in a clown mask, a second wearing a costume resembling Michael Myers from the “Halloween” movie series and the third dressed as an evil nun – can be heard yelling, “It’s your worst nightmare,” while standing outside Whiteside’s mother’s home. The woman who thought it was a prank called 911 but police didn’t arrive until after they tried to bust in her back door. The trio eventually left in a car.
After more than 100 hours of investigation, Alexandria Police Department Chief Tarrick McGuire said detectives identified the three suspects who terrorized a family dressed in frightening “Halloween masks” as cousins of the residents. A woman admitted she and her two sons and a nephew staged the prank while two other adults and a child reportedly filmed the incident. APD Chief McGuire said the incident could have gone south fast had someone opened fire on the suspect. In addition to calling 911, McGuire said the homeowner called her brother, who arrived at the scene armed with a loaded firearm.
