Four people were hospitalized and a fifth person was treated for anxiety-related symptoms after the shooting at Wilmer-Hutchins High School on Tuesday afternoon in Dallas, Texas. The alleged suspect in the shooting that was identified as 17 year old Tracy Haynes Jr., has turned himself into police but not before going live on social media.
The shooting occurred around 1:30 PM at Wilmer-Hutchins High School in Dallas, with victims ranging from ages 15 to 18. Four people were hospitalized and a fifth person was treated for anxiety-related symptoms after the shooting. According to a report Tracy Haynes Jr. was let into the school by an unidentified student through an unsecured door.
Tracy Haynes Jr. allegedly walked down a hallway until he saw multiple male students, displayed a firearm and fired at them, the affidavit said. Then, Haynes Jr. allegedly approached one student who wasn’t able to run away and appeared to take a point-blank shot. DISD police confirmed that the suspect’s gun jammed while he was firing at point-blank range, likely saving that individual’s life. Following the incident Tracy Haynes Jr. fled the scene.
Prior to turning himself in, Tracy Haynes Jr. took to social media in a video. In the clip, Haynes claims he “had to do it” and says he lost everyone he’s loved, including his mother and grandmother. Insisting that his preference was to be “behind bars instead of in a casket.”
Tracy Haynes Jr., turned himself in to police and is being charged with first-degree aggravated assault – mass shooting, the affidavit said. His bond has been set at $600,000.
