Back in 2022 Will Smith won his first Oscar but before that, in what should have been a happy, upbeat ‘Fresh Prince of Bel Air’ moment ended up being a ‘Bel Air’ drama on Peacock moment, when the first physical altercation in Oscar history went down on live television. The Will Smith slapping Chris Rock Oscar video went viral in 0 to 30 seconds, probably another record breaking moment of the night, that unfortunately both men are now most infamously known for and the first thing they are asked about. Chris Rock who didn’t press charges on Will Smith that night nor does he talk about it other than addressing the incident in Boston in front of a sold out crowd, Chris Rock, on his “Ego Death Tour,”. Is now speaking on it ahead of the Toronto International Film Festival premiere of “Misty Green,” his first film as director in 12 years, set to hit theaters via A24 in October.
In a recent Variety profile, Chris Rock discussed “Misty Green” as well as his complicated relationship with the Oscars stage. Rock made clear he’s not holding his breath for another Academy Awards return. When asked how he feels about a comeback, he said the only scenario that gets him back is a nomination, and he doesn’t expect one. As for the slap itself, Rock reflected candidly:
“I wish nothing would have happened. And also, I don’t want to say anything that takes any attention away from Rosalind and how good she is in this movie. It’s a crazy world. We walk by homeless people. There’s all sorts of sh*t going on right now. Me having a bad day is not the biggest — it’s not that important.”

Chris Rock’s brother actor/comedian Tony Rock shared during an interview recently that his brother underwent medical testing after noticing differences in how he interacted with others. (see video below)
“He did, like, a self-diagnosis and realized, like, something’s off,” …. “So he went to a doctor. They ran a bunch of tests.” According to Tony the results were, “He has a symptom of Asperger’s. It’s, like, how he communicates and how people communicate with him. He has a problem, like, picking up… social cues.”
Asperger syndrome is a former medical diagnosis that is now classified under the broader umbrella of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
Chris Rock previously revealed in 2020 that after undergoing extensive cognitive testing, he was diagnosed with nonverbal learning disorder (NVLD). He later clarified that doctors told him he did not have Asperger’s, although he described his condition as being “very close” to it.
