Two Men Have Been Found Hanging From Trees In Mississippi On The Same Day

Two days in a row, reports of two men found hanging from trees in two different spots in Mississippi found on the same day.

Monday morning the body of a Black student identified as 21-year-old Demartravion “Trey” Reed was found hanging from a tree at Delta State University, in Cleveland, Mississippi.  According to police chief Peeler said the circumstances behind Reed’s hanging are still under investigation by the Cleveland Police Department, the Mississippi Bureau of Investigations, and the Bolivar County Sheriff’s Office.  However according to Delta State University Chief of Police Michael Peeler:

“As of this time, there’s no evidence of foul play,” …“While there’s no evidence of foul play, the body has been retrieved by the Bolivar County Coroner’s Office.”

That brings us to reportedly on Tuesday.

A man identified as 36 year old Corey Zukatis was found hanging from a tree Monday morning in a wooded area near a Vicksburg casino, according to authorities.  According to the Vicksburg Police Department, officers were notified that Zukatis was found hanging in a wooded area of Washington Street near the area of the Ameristar Casino in Mississippi.  Law enforcement authorities are investigating Corey Zukatis’ death who was allegedly homeless at the time. No reports of foul play have been espoused by police, nor have any arrests been made at this time.

The stunning discoveries brought forth old wounds in Mississippi, a state battered by a long and violent history of lynchings and racial violence. Despite assertions by authorities of no immediate threat to the public, many are skeptical, pointing to an ugly pattern of rash conclusions.
