Judge Gregory Weeks, presided over the 1996 murder trial of the men convicted of killing James Jordan, father of NBA legend Michael Jordan. Judge Weeks now is now asking for the release of, Daniel Green, the man convicted of killing James Jordan.
According to prosecutors in 1993 James Jordan was sleeping in the passenger seat of his Lexus parked along Highway 74 when 18 year old Daniel Green walked up to the vehicle and shot him in what was described as a botched robbery. James Jordans body was found less than two weeks later in a swamp in South Carolina, 60 miles away from his abandoned Lexus, in Robeson County, North Carolina. Daniel Green was sentenced to life in prison.
The judge in the case, Judge Weeks, who is now retired, is now saying a forensic blood expert failed to disclose key findings during the trial, evidence that could’ve cast doubt as to whether Green was guilty of the murder of Jame Jordan. Judge Weeks told the commission he had presided over many trials, but “had never been haunted in such a manner as he was haunted by this case.”
