Women Dies In NYC After Falling Into A Manhole While Getting Out Her Car [VIDEO]

We hear stories of sinkholes opening up on streets especially after the past winter we had.  Reportedly a woman fell to her death, not in a sinkhole but into an uncovered manhole when she stepped out of her car on a New York City street.

Around midnight of the 19th, 56 year old Donike Gocaj exited her Mercedes-Benz SUV, only to fall about 10 feet into the manhole, which was reportedly uncovered. Sources indicate that steam from underground utilities likely led to her cardiac arrest shortly after the fall. Emergency responders rushed her to New York Presbyterian Hospital, but she was pronounced dead.

Witnesses noted that the manhole cover was discovered 15 feet away, with no construction taking place at the time of the incident and that Donike Gocaj “took one step forward and just disappeared.”

“She was screaming, ‘I’m dying,’ that’s what I kept hearing her screaming over and over,”… “She wasn’t distracted, she didn’t walk onto a construction site, I mean, she parked her car, stepped out of her car and dropped right into the manhole.”

Donike Gocaj is survived by a son, a daughter, and two grandchildren.
