Wait-a-minute Waymo, Car Stops Between Railroad Tracks And Crossing Gate While a Train Was Passing Through [VIDEO]

With anything new, you have to expect there to be some bumps and bruises along the way.  The newest craze is opposed to taking an Uber or Lyfte some are taking Waymo, an autonomous driving technology company and subsidiary of Alphabet Inc. (Google’s parent company) that operates fully driverless, electric robotaxi services. Known as Waymo One, it offers 24/7 public ride-hailing in cities like Phoenix, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Atlanta, Austin, and Houston, using vehicles equipped with lidar, cameras, and radar.  The beginning of the month a self-driving Waymo taxi was captured on video blocking emergency vehicles from responding to the scene of a packed bar in downtown Austin just two minutes away from where a gunman killed two people and wounded 14 others at Buford’s Backyard Beer Garden.   This week folks are clutching their pearls because Waymo got caught on camera invading a moving trains personal space, but the folks at Waymo are saying there’s no need to worry.

A video circulating on social media shows a Waymo autonomous vehicle in Austin stopped in between train tracks and a railroad stop arm as a CapMetro train passes by.

Waymo says there were no passengers onboard a self-driving car that was seen stopped between train tracks and a crossing gate at a railroad crossing in Austin, Texas, as a train went past.  The company said its vehicles “have safely traversed railroad crossings millions of times,” but that it will review this particular location.
