Queen Of Soul Aretha Franklin’s Biopic ‘Respect’ Trailer Has Dropped [VIDEO]

It’s crazy that in 2004 Chicago native Jennifer Hudson got eliminated from American Idol behind these names Diana DeGarmo, George Huff, Jasmine Trias, LaToya London, John Stevens and season 3 winner Fantasia Barrino.  But from that experience Jennifer Hudson dusted off her shoulders and made everyone on earth stand to there feet when she slayed Jennifer Holiday’s ‘And I Am Telling You, I’m Not Going’ in the award winning movie ‘Dreamgirls’, a performance that made people forget that Beyonce’ was the lead in the movie, while earning Jennifer Hudson an Oscar and more importantly made the entertainment world take notice of what ‘American Idol’ snubbed.

Aretha Franklin was one of those that took notice and Jennifer Hudson had earned the Queen of Soul’s respect to the tune of if anyone wanted to do a biopic on the legendary Aretha Franklin, the only person in Ree’s eyes that could fill her shoes on screen was Jennifer Hudson.

The world lost the Grammy award winning Aretha Franklin in 2018 now her life will play out on the silver screen in her biopic titled ‘Respect’ staring Jennifer Hudson as Aretha Franklin, Forest Whitaker as her father, Reverend C.L. Franklin, Mary J. Blige as Dinah Washington and Marlon Wayans starring as Aretha Franklin’s husband/manager Ted White.

As the world opens back up from the pandemic, Respect is set to open in theaters later this summer on August 13th.
