Queen Latifah and Missy Elliott 1st Rappers To Receive National Medal of Arts

All hail the Queen’s of Hip Hop.  Congratulations are in order as it is being reported that Queen Latifah and Missy Elliot have made United States History by becoming the first rappers to receive the National Medal of Arts.

On Monday, Oct. 21, President Joe Biden handed out the National Medal of Arts and National Humanities honors at the White House. Among those recipients included Missy Elliott and Queen Latifah, the first rappers to be given the honor.

According to the NEA, the honorees were chosen for their “outstanding contributions to the excellence, growth, support, and availability of the arts in the United States.”

President Biden handed out the prestigious National Medals of Arts and National Humanities honors to 39 recipients, including notables such as Spike Lee, Steven Spielberg, as well as a posthumous medal for Selena Quintanilla.
