Prayers are in order as it’s being reported that the baby sister that everybody loved to hate, Dee Thomas on the 70’s sitcom ‘What’s Happening’, Actress Danielle Spencer has passed away at the age of 60 years old.
According to TMZ actress Danielle Spencer passed away on Monday night with her mother and brother by her side in a hospital in Richmond, Virginia. A cause of death has not been announced.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Danielle Spencer was diagnosed with breast cancer and had a double mastectomy back in 2014. Later in 2018, she had an emergency surgery to relieve brain bleeding. It was also revealed that she was recently in a wheelchair after being in a car accident.
Danielle Spencer played Dee, the smart-aleck younger sister of Roger “Raj” Thomas (Ernest Thomas) and daughter of Mabel (Mabel King), and she became known for her catch phrase, “Ooooh, I’m gonna tell Mama!” Following ‘What’s Happening’ Danielle Spencer and her mother spent time in Africa before she enrolled at the University of California, Davis, and studied veterinary medicine. She also attended Tuskegee University Veterinary School in Alabama, where she earned a doctorate in veterinary medicine in 1993. Spencer opened up about the impact of the accident in her 2011 memoir, Through The Fire… Journal of a Child Star. Danielle Spencer became the first child star to be inducted into the Smithsonian Museum.
According to her co-star on ‘What’s Happening’, Haywood Nelson, “She suffered for a very long time but did it with a great deal of courage,”.
We will be keeping the family, friends and colleagues of Danielle Spencer uplifted in our prayers.
