The Democratic National Convention takes place this week in Chicago, Illinois hosted by Olivia Pope and Fitz from Scandal. Day two musically was epic as the stage was rocked out by Chicago native rapper/activist, Common and the legendary singer Patti LaBelle.
The South Side, Chicago-hailing rapper, Common, energized the crowd of Night 2 at the convention center, performing his 2024 track “Fortunate,” adapting his lyrics to incorporate a message about Vice President Kamala Harris and being assisted on the chorus by gospel singer Jonathan McReynolds. “I thank God for this moment in time where Kamala Harris will change the world for the better with love, hope and grace,” the rapper-activist declared.
Then Patti LaBelle ripped up the stage while sending chills through the DNC crowds souls with her 1978 ballad “You Are My Friend” during the In Memoriam segment of the evening.
The icing on the cake was when rapper Lil Jon hit the stage, leading the crowd in a chant saying, “we not going back.”. Lil Jon assisted Georgia in casting their delegate votes for Kamala Harris.
