Tremane Wood was scheduled to be executed on November 13, 2025 by lethal injection for the 2002 murder of 19 year old Ronnie Wipf, who was stabbed in the heart during an ambush robbery. Wood’s brother, Zjaiton Wood confessed to the stabbing, was convicted and sentenced to life in prison, where he died by suicide in 2019. Today Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt, before Tremane Wood scheduled 10:00am execution at the Oklahoma State Penitentiary in McAlester, has granted clemency for Tremane Wood, who had been on Oklahoma’s death row for more than 20 years.
“After a thorough review of the facts and prayerful consideration, I have chosen to accept the Pardon and Parole Board’s recommendation to commute Tremane Wood’s sentence to life without parole,” “This action reflects the same punishment his brother received for their murder of an innocent young man and ensures a severe punishment that keeps a violent offender off the streets forever. In Oklahoma, we will continue to hold accountable those who commit violent crimes, delivering justice, safeguarding our communities, and respecting the rule of law. I pray for the family of Ronnie Wipf and for the surviving victim, Arnie; they are models of Christian forgiveness and love.”
Ronnie Wipf who had belonged to a colony of Hutterites, a religious sect of people who believe in nonviolence, mother Barbara Wipf told the Huffington Post earlier this month that Wood wrote her an apology letter last year.
“He wrote me how sorry he is, which I believe, because my religion tells me he wrote the truth,” Tremane Wood “should feel sorry,” but “They should let him live,”
Police said back in 2002 Wipf and a friend were lured to a hotel room by two women who Tremane Wood and his brother had conspired with two women to get Wipf and the other man into a motel room, to rob them where a fight ensued during the robbery and Wipf was stabbed in the chest during a struggle with two masked men (the Woods brothers) who rushed into the motel room.
This marks the second time Stitt has granted clemency for a death row inmate.
