Ohio Haitian College Student Takes His Life After Losing Protected Status [VIDEO]

We are living in some dark times with immigration in our melting pot being removed from the pot.  Prayers are in order as a Springfield, OH college has reportedly taken his life after losing his protected status.

Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Haiti was officially terminated on August 4, 2026, after U.S. District Judge Ana C. Reyes lifted the remaining stay following a Supreme Court decision. Individuals without another active legal immigration status (such as a pending asylum claim) are now considered undocumented and face risks of immigration enforcement or removal.

A Haitian immigrant 20 year old Pierre Damas Bel according to his family had grown increasingly distraught after losing his protection from deportation and being outfitted with an ankle monitor was run over and killed Monday in what his family believes was a suicide.  Bel, parked on the shoulder of Interstate 70 in Springfield, Ohio, some time before 8:45 a.m., got out of his vehicle and walked into westbound traffic, the Ohio State Highway Patrol told local media outlets. He was hit by a tractor-trailer and pronounced dead at the scene.

Pierre Damas Bel arrived in the U.S. in 2024 and applied for admission into the country using the now-defunct CBP One app, Immigration and Customs Enforcement said in an emailed statement. He was released into the country and settled in Springfield with his parents and two brothers.  Bel excelled in academics and athletics, becoming an honor roll student at Springfield High School and joining JROTC. He was recruited to play soccer at Wittenberg University and hoped to attend medical school after college, immigration advocates said.
