March brings about madness in men’s and women’s basketball, and evidently March madness was in the air on the High School level as a New York Basketball coach was fired for pulling one of his players ponytail.
Northville Central girls High School basketball coach Jim Zullo was fired by the school after video footage showed him pulling the hair of player Hailey Monroe moments after their team lost the Class D state final to La Fargeville, 43-37 on Friday night. The video shows Zullo pulling one a senior and the program’s all-time leading scorer, hair after she had fouled out of the game. After the incident, a teammate is seen stepping between Zullo and the female baller before the camera cuts away.
The 81 year old coach Jim Zullo who has coached the team for the past 2 years taken them to the state championship each time apologized.
“I deeply regret my behavior following the loss to La Fargeville Friday night in the Class D state championship game,” “I want to offer my sincerest apologies to Hailey and her family, our team, the good folks at Northville Central Schools and our community.” “As a coach, under no circumstance is it acceptable to put my hands on a player, and I am truly sorry. I wish I could have those moments back.”
