Lawd if it seems like things couldn’t get any worse, think again.
Founder and co-owner Nakia Holmes was arrested in Harris County on Wednesday on a felony hindering apprehension charge. She’s accused of helping hide Johnathan Saizon, a man who was wanted by authorities for allegedly kidnapping his ex-girlfriend for nearly six hours and assaulting her, including with a tire iron. Records show Holmes and Saizon have the same Cypress address.
Authorities allege that on Oct. 8, Johnathan Saizon went to his ex-girlfriend’s home, forced her into his vehicle, and assaulted her over several hours, including with a tire iron, before releasing her at a hospital but not until Saizon’s ex promised not to tell on him.
Nakia Holmes, whose Turkey Leg Hut became a famous Houston dining destination for locals and out of towners, now faces legal consequences for her alleged role in shielding a wanted suspect from law enforcement. The hindering apprehension charge stems from accusations that she knowingly provided false information to officers and attempted to protect Saizon from arrest despite being aware of his fugitive status.
In 2024 the Houston Health Department shut The Turkey Leg Hut down due to serious health and safety violations, and its landlord later terminated the lease. Gospel singer James Fortune and his wife said they loaned Nakia Price hundreds of thousands of dollars in efforts to keep the restaurant afloat, but ended up suing her. The Turkey Leg Hut has permanently closed due to a combination of legal and financial issues, including numerous health code violations, a lawsuit from neighbors, and bankruptcy proceedings.
Court records show Holmes has no prior criminal history in Harris County. Both Holmes and Saizon remained in custody. A judge set Holmes’ bail at $10,000.
