A 1-year-old boy named Kohen Wiley was killed when police responding to a reported shoplifting call opened fire on a vehicle outside a Walmart in Mississippi back in June. On Monday Mississippi state attorney general after further review said that the police were “justified” in the use of force.
According to authorities police officers arrived at the Mississippi Walmart when they allegedly encountered two subjects and a juvenile child fleeing from the store into a vehicle. Police allegedly tried to stop the vehicle, “but the driver drove in the direction of the officers, almost striking one.” An officer then discharged their weapon, firing at the vehicle. The driver then drove to a nearby hospital, where the child was pronounced dead, and another adult was critically injured.
Four months later Attorney General Lynn Fitch’s office issued the brief statement:
“Today, the Office of the Attorney General announced it has completed the review of a June 14, 2026, incident in Senatobia involving one officer with the Senatobia Police Department,” …“In this incident, the Attorney General’s Office found the use of force was justified.”
