Miss Cleo Didn’t See This Coming…A Documentary on ‘Miss Cleo’

Everyone remembers watching television back in the 90’s hearing a voice with a Jamaican accent ring out “Call me now”, the voice of Miss Cleo who was a viral sensation before there was a social media to go viral on.  Whether you believed in he Psychics or not, you were tempted to call Miss Cleo because Miss Cleo was like FUBU, for us by us, until the bottom fell out.  Miss Cleo didn’t foresee her own future as a psychic and we are sure that the now deceased Miss Cleo didn’t foresee a documentary coming  about her life.

Miss Cleo was the Queen of fortune telling in the tune of over a billion dollars until 2002 when it all came crashing down when the Federal Trade Commission accused the network and its owners of deceptive advertising, billing, and collection practices, bringing Miss Cleo’s reign as queen of clairvoyance to a dramatic end.   We soon found out that Miss Cleo was really an actress named Youree Dell Harris, who passed away in 2016 from cancer.

But who was Miss Cleo?  Was she really a scambo or was she a victim?  The answers are forth coming in a documentary about Miss Cleo/Youree Dell Harris’s iconic rise and tragic fall is in production right now being directed by Senain Kheshgi.  According to Kheshgi:

“Her story is an example of how brown and Black women have historically been marginalized and exotified in society and popular culture. The enduring image of the dark, mystical woman still continues to perpetuate this stereotype.”

No release date has been given at this time.
