Minn. Man Gunned Down By Police Over An Air Freshener Was An Alleged Accident

Protest has sparked back up in Minnesota but not due to the George Floyd case, however about the deadly actions of a police officer near where George Floyd was killed.

20 year old Daunte Wright was driving just miles away from where George Floyd was killed by the knee of an ex-Minneapolis police officer, Derek Chauvin, that is on trial now for his murder, when he was pulled over by police.  Daunte Wright immediately called his mother, Katie Wright,  and told her that he was being stopped for having an air freshener hanging from his rear view mirror which is illegal in Minnesota.  Ms. Wright told her son Daunte to put the police officers on the phone so she could give them car insurance details, when she heard him being ordered from the car.  Shortly after the phone went dead when Ms. Wright called Daunte’s number back his girlfriend informed her that the police had shot and killed Daunte Wright.  Protests broke out immediately.

Today video of the incident was released then in a press conference,  Brooklyn Center Police Chief Tim Gannon said that Daunte Wright was shot by accident the officer meant to tase him.

“As I watch the video & listen to the officer’s commands, it is my belief that the officer had the intention to deploy their taser but instead shot [Daunte] Wright with a single bullet. This appears to me… that this was an accidental discharge”
