The prison system is a touchy subject, while we can all agree that there is much room for prison reform, there are victims that are seeing justice against the crime that was committed against them and there are those whose loved ones are in prison for crimes committed that when they come home they celebrate the home coming. Actor/comedian Mike Epps recently in an interview with Jim Jones said that celebrating someone simply for being released from jail is the “wrong journey to celebrate. ”
“There’s no reward to coming home after 30 years… you’re a failure.”
That’s when the dragging on social media began.
Mike Epps who seen and heard the comments jumped on social media posting a video to add clarity and context to what he said. According to Mike Epps he feels that his comments were misunderstood and that he has always been part of reform however the message sent when prison return is celebrated sends the wrong message to kids.
“Wasn’t saying it was wrong to be celebrated, but we don’t want to send a message to the kids saying ‘prison is great,’… I don’t think that’s cool.”
