The prison system is a touchy subject, while we can all agree that there is much room for prison reform, there are victims that are seeing justice against the crime that was committed against them and there are those whose loved ones are in prison for crimes committed that when they come home they celebrate the home coming. Actor/comedian Mike Epps recently in an interview with Jim Jones said that celebrating someone simply for being released from jail is the “wrong journey to celebrate. ” Epp’s feels that it sends the wrong message to children. The comment led to Mike Epp’s getting dragged as well as sparked debates on social media. However the Louisiana State Penitentiary fells that their is an importance to unite incarcerated dad’s with their kids.
Louisiana State Penitentiary recently hosted a daddy-daughter night, a first-ever event for the Angola facility, to allow incarcerated fathers to reunite with their daughters. In partnership with the nonprofit God Behind Bars, the prison chapel was decorated for the occasion, with dads wearing suits and daughters in formal dresses. The event provided an emotional and meaningful opportunity for families to connect, share a meal, and dance together, with many hoping it becomes an annual tradition.
