Lil Mama Speaks On Crashing The Infamous MTV VMAs Jay-Z and Alicia Keys Performance [VIDEO]

Lil Mama experienced top 10 Billboard placements at 17 with her debut album VYP (Voice of the Young People) (2008), which debuted at number 25 on the Billboard 200. The album spawned her four major singles including her staple song and dance anthem “Lip Gloss”, earning her two Teen Choice Awards and Monster Single of the Year nominations at the MTV Video Music Awards.  Unfortunately she is best known for crashing the 2009 MTV VMA’s stage during a performance by Jay-Z and Alicia Keys.

Kanye West wasn’t the only one crashing stages at the 2009 MTV VMA’s.

Back in 2009 Jay-Z and Alicia Keys was slaying the MTV Video Music Awards stage with their “Empire State Of Mind”, when rapper Lil Mama was feelin the performance a little bit too much when she decided to take the stage with Jay-Z and Alicia Key’s uninvited.  Beyonce’ tried to stop Lil Mam but there was no stoping her as she posed during that iconic moment at the end of the song.  15 years later Lil Mama is talking about that moment that changed her life forever and not so much for the good.

During a recent appearance on The Jay Hill Podcast, Lil Mama reflected on the infamous stage-crashing, revealing that it took a serious toll on her mental health, and how the fallout from it affected her mental health.

“I had to deal with Ed Lover on the radio in the morning, Wendy Williams, Angie Martinez, who talked to JAY, and he was just like, ‘Yeah, you know. I didn’t like it.’ He was so angry and I was just trying my best to do everything I could do. After a while, I was like, ‘Forgive yourself, bro. Move forward,’” she explained. “Bro, I was hurt. I was depressed. I was like, ‘Yo, what’s going on?’ And then you got everybody telling you, ‘You’re doing bad.’ People pointing at you, like, ‘What did you do?’”
