Before Cardi B or Nicki Minaj, a 14 year old Roxanne Shanté, made Hip Hop history with a blazingly male-shaming diss track, the response to UTFO’s Roxanne, Roxanne, helped launch hip-hop into the big time, paving the way for other females in a male driven Hip Hop era.
Congratulations are in order as the Grammy’s will be giving Roxanne Shante’ her well deserved flowers in the form of a Lifetime Achievement Award.
Queens native, 55 year old Roxanne Shante’ was announced as a recipient of this year’s Lifetime Achievement class, including Dr. Bobby Jones, the late Prince and Frankie Beverly, and more. The “Roxanne’s Revenge” emcee will also be the first female rapper to receive the honor, which will be given during the Special Merit Awards Ceremony on Saturday, February 1, one day before the 2025 Grammy Awards.
