For the past few years celebrity sexual assault cases has been trending on blog headlines from Bill Cosby to Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs with a many other high profile names in between. As no one deserves to be sexually abused in any way. The question that always comes up when we hear about these stories is ‘why now, why not then’? As Diddy is sitting through jury selection, another celebrity is reportedly being accused sexual assault. Lakers legend Byron Scott is being accused of an act that happened 38 years ago. This time the Jane Doe has a name.
Hayley Dylan filed a 20-page lawsuit accusing the three-time NBA champion, Byron Scott of sexual battery, sexual assault, false imprisonment, and intentional infliction of emotional distress.
Allegedly according to court documents Byron Scott lured Hayley Dylan into an area of her high school away from other adults before forcing himself on her in a locked janitor’s closet. Dylan was allegedly 15 years old at the time, while Scott was 26. Team 64 year old Byron Scott doesn’t deny having a consensual sexual encounter with Dylan who Scott believed to be of legal age at the time.
“Our client is devastated by this complaint, a basketball event that took place in 1987…Our client believed the plaintiff to be over 18 and had no idea she would claim otherwise until 35 years later,” Scott’s attorney, Linda Bauermeister, told Daily Mail. “He respects girls and women, and the claims have blindsided him and his family.”
